        DESCRIPTION:

The South-Eastern part of Transylvania is home to lots of Saxon villages dating back to the Late Middle Ages. Six of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, being founded by German colonists, when they were brought to Transylvania by the kings of Hungary, in the 12th century.

     OUR TOUR INCLUDES:

DAY 1

1. Prejmer Fortified Church - Part of the UNESCO Heritage Sites, and a must-see of any itinerary of medieval Transylvania.

2. Feldioara Citadel - If you’re passionate about history and love gothic architecture, visiting the Feldioara Citadel is the ideal experience.

3. Rupea Fortress - is a medieval castle located on Cohalm Hill, at the border of Brasov County and Mures County. It is considered one of the most beautiful castles in the country, with its first recorded history dating back to 1324.

4. Viscri village - Viscri is probably one of the most famous Saxon villages in Transylvania, thanks to Prince Charles, who bought several properties in the area in the past 20 years.

DAY 2

5. Crit and Saschiz villages - We will visit  fortified churches in Crit and Saschiz - UNESCO World Heritage Site.

6. Sighisoara - the last inhabited medieval fortress in Europe.

DAY 3

7. Biertan - The most famous of the fortified churches, Biertan was the seat of the Lutheran bishops from 1572 to 1867; their fine gravestones can be seen inside the Bishops' Tower. Other villages in our itinerary will be Malancrav and Copsa Mare.

8. Fagăraș Citadel - Dating back to 1310, the construction of Făgăraș Fortress was initiated on the remnants of a previous 12th-century wooden fortification. It was constructed with strategic intent, primarily to safeguard the southeastern region of Transylvania against the incursions of the Tatars and the Ottomans.

9. Brașov - was established in 1211 by the Teutonic Knights on an ancient Dacian location, was subsequently inhabited by the Saxons in the 13th century and is one of the most beautiful and visited places in Romania.
